Franklin's Tower

Franklin's Tower Restaurant, named for a Grateful Dead song, is the 4-month-old successor to the Plaza Grill, an Albany business that for 71 years occupied the circa-1820 Broadway building. Franklin's Tower is positioning itself in downtown Albany as the "Place to Be" for cocktails, excellent food and live music - eclectic stuff, not just the Grateful Dead. Lunch and dinner patrons can dine in dark-mahogany booths on the first floor or trek up steep stairs to a comfortable, red-walled dining room that reputedly once was a hangout for the likes of Babe Ruth and Dan O'Connell, among other athletes and politicians. Up on the cozy third floor, there's a bar, plush love seats and a view of University Plaza to attract private parties or overflow diners. By the way, you may wonder if the Grateful Dead ever played ``Franklin's Tower'' in Albany. Onetime Dead member Robert Hunter who wrote the song played it at the Palace Theatre back in '97. Husband and wife, Vince and Courtney Commisso know the value of providing their customers Italian fare of higher quality and quantity. Growing up in his family's restaurant, Cosimo's, Vince learned at an early age the value of providing quality food that was plentiful and reasonably priced. Vince stated, "My family always prided itself on serving healthy portions of homemade food. They always made you feel like you were sitting down in their home to enjoy your meal."
While Vince works the kitchen, Courtney handles all the marketing and promotion for restaurant. They want customers to feel like they have been invited into their home when they step inside the 16-seat, café-style eating area. The décor is comfortable and casual, perfect for a family night dinner or get-together with friends. "Our menu consists of comfort food that everyone loves-- from thin-crust pizza and pasta made with our homemade sauce to specialty sandwiches, appetizers, and salads," states Vince. "We try to offer enough variety that everyone in the family will find exactly what they are looking for."
Primos menu selections are made on premises with a little help from a local bakery and an importing store which handle the bread and sausages respectively. "We pride ourselves on providing our customers with an enjoyable experience every time they dine with us," said Courtney. Diners can enjoy their food in the café, stop in for carry-out or have it delivered for free. Daily specials are always on tap, as is a full catering menu for large gatherings or corporate events.
