A Full Plate Cafe
American
1040 North American St. Unit 1101, Philadelphia, PA, 19123
When looking around A Full Plate, The design is emphatically rustic modern. There is a balance where old meets new. The walls are awash in concord grape purple, lime green, and blood orange. The tables are hand-painted with a technique called "vinegar paint" by friend and local artist, Lori Albright, emboldened by a menagerie of chairs. The floor is a hand-laid, slapdash medley of wooden planks. Pots and pans, made from old copper and iron, frame the front doors. We included old wooden doors, windows, antique cooking tools, and bric-a-brac throughout the caf. When making decisions about the menu, we wanted our guests to be able to have some control over their meal. Our concept was simple. One owner is a vegetarian and very conscious of the lack of choices here in Philly when you go out to eat with your meat-eating friends. We wanted to create a menu that would make all vegetarians, vegans, and carnivores excited about the selections. So we came up with home cooking, Southern influenced, healthy food. On the whole, our dishes are a la carte, and our list of sides is quite extensive. We encourage you to taste them all and maybe give those Brussels sprouts you hated as a kid another try. We want to introduce people to new ways of eating and preparing food. Whether we feature beets, turnips or salsify, as our root vegetable of the day, we hope that you are trying something new or enjoying an old favorite. We can't talk about the menu without mentioning the fried chicken and waffles. It is our take on an old Southern favorite; served on a Belgian waffle, topped with seasoned breaded boneless chicken tenders, covered with a sweet-and-spicy BBQ syrup. Voted #2 Best Waffle in the City, by the Philadelphia CityPaper, it is one of our most popular dishes.

JD McGillicuddy's was founded in 1994 in Ardmore, PA and have become quite the local favorite ever since. Now with 5 locations throughout the Philadelphia area. Now the question our patrons always seem to ask is "Who Is JD McGillicuddy" Well sit back and I will tell you a tale of 2 fisherman and the best of friends... A good friend and I were out fishing one day and he turned to me and said "why don't you name a pub after me?" The Pubs were named after John D. McDonald or to everyone who knew and loved him simply, Jack. This name "JD McGillicuddy's" comes from the name my children had given to Jack over the years. Jack always brought a smile to your face whether or not you knew him. Our great friend passed in March of 2001, however his name and his legacy lives on just the way he knew it... So raise your glass to JD McGillicuddy!!!

The Venture Inn is one of the oldest drinking and dining establishments in Philadelphia. By the late 1800's, the Inn, originally a carriage house, became a trendy spot with students, artists and actors from the local Philadelphian playhouses. The main structure, facing Spruce located on the corner of Dean(e) Streets, was once a home owned by the world renowned John Barrymore and family. In the mid 1800's Dean(e) Street was renamed Camac Street after the famous Camac Baths. The bar area of the Inn was once the home's patio garden Beneath the dining room, the sub-basements and tunnels extended through out the city and, gave refuge to the slaves during the Underground Railroad movement. Since 1974, the Venture Inn has been a popular gathering place for the Gay and Lesbian community. Under new ownership, Bob and the staff are proud to continue service to Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love and it's visitors.

13 Restaurant & Bar @ Philadelphia Marriott Downtown
American
1201 Market St, Philadelphia, PA, 19107
Why 13? It's simple...really. Once our Chef created a menu featuring timeless American Classics with a contemporary twist, it seemed obvious that we should honor what Philadelphia means, historically, to our nation. Most significantly, the "City of Brotherly Love" was the city in which our Forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence effectively turning 13 ragtag British colonies into these United States. A moment that actually defines a nation - our nation. This document is formally entitled "the unanimous Declaration of the thirteen United States of America." Thirteen may be viewed as an unlucky number by some, but in terms of Philadelphia history and America destiny-13 is just fine by us. Good thing we're not a superstitious lot. Declare your independence from average fare and enjoy our Chef crafted American Inspired selections!
