I would like to welcome you to our restaurant Matadors. My family and I have been serving fine authentic Mexican food for more than 25 years in Phoenix, Arizona. Our restaurant has become a tradition for many Arizona family gatherings and well as the jet set (Sammy Davis Jr., Clint Eastwood just to name a few.) You also might catch many local, state and national politicians at a table right next to you.
We are well known for our frothy margaritas, our delicious Mexican entrees and our "Greek Taco's". Everything in Matadors is made fresh daily. Nothing comes from a can and there are no preservatives. Our salsa, hot sauce, guacamole, tamales and everything else is homemade. The tacos are made from shredded beef, not ground meat. We even make our own Menudo with tripe, beef feet (patas), hominy, corn and spices. Popular dishes include our Huevos Rancheros, Lengua Con Chili and our Beef Tougue in Green Sauce. Come by on Wednesday or Sunday to enjoy our Mexican stew called Cocido. When you do visit us make sure not to try one of our fantastic desserts including our deep-fried marble cheesecake.
Of course all of our fantastic food is available for take-out as well as party trays for group events and if you need to host your event we can handle groups up to 300. We have also added online ordering directly from our web site for dine-in or take-out making it even easier to indulge in our great food. My name is George and I currently own and operate <b>George's Famous Gyros</b> in Scottsdale, AZ. I was born and raised in Chicago until the age of ten when my family and I moved to Greece. That was definitely nice for a while but after about a year and a half we decided to move back to the States. We've been here in Arizona for about thirteen years now and consider it to be our second home. Although George's Famous Gyros is the first restaurant I've opened on my own, I have had plenty of experience running restaurants because my family has been in this business for as long as I can remember.
The word "Gyro" means "round" in Greek. At George's Famous Gyros, which recently opened at 7620 E. McKellips Road in Scottsdale, it appears to also be a reference to our extremely well-rounded menu. Make no mistake about it, the Gyros are delicious, but you'll also find great Pita Pizzas, Greek salad, Hummus, Baklava and other Greek favorites, plus Italian cuisine including Spaghetti, Fettuccine Alfredo, Chicken Parmigiana and Italian Sausage Sandwiches. If you'd like something a little more domestic, Burgers, Hot Dogs and Chicken Wings are also available. Despite the eclectic nature of this restaurant's offerings, the secret to great cooking is to keep it simple. Anything we make is with garlic, basil, olive oil, mint, parsley, oregano and pepper. Everything is made from scratch.
Although the food is made-to-order for maximum freshness, it's served quickly. .So, come and bring your family and friends for a great meal and a fun time! Oh, and please visit my father, Ted, at our other George's Famous Gyros location on 2814 W. Bell Rd in Phoenix.

We are located in the Theatre District at Mesa Riverview Mall. A gyro is a wonderful Greek creation. The best versions are the mixtures of ground beef and lamb that is seasoned with Greek Spices, then pressed together and slowly cooked on revolving spits. The spits allow the fat to drain off, and as the meat turns and cooks slowly, it develops a highly prized cooked crust which expert gyro makers slice off with a long knife.
Once the slices are ready, they're piled into a warmed pita and topped with onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce. Tzatziki is a Greek sauce made from yogurt and fresh cucumbers - at Omega Gyros, the tzatziki is fresh and homemade.
