In September 1990 Ellen Heyer purchased the turn of the century building, which was used as a livery and fire station in the past.With Heyers ideas and the work of architect Dick Rudich, the building has been drastically renovated on the inside, Brought up to par on the outside, and was transformed into a place for visitors and residents to shop and dine. Since she opened the doors Toulouse has received Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence ten times 1991, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 for having one of the most outstanding restaurant wine lists in the world. Toulouse has also received the Zagot award of Distinction multiple times.Ellen has received the Heritage Preservation Award for the preservation of the historic built environment.
