Boat House Pub & Eatery<br>Since 1992 Kenosha's only authentic waterfront pub offers a sweeping view of Lake Michigan. Conveniently located in Kenosha's small boat harbor, Boat House is a popular stop for charter fishing cruises and provides 22 courtesy docks for guests. Owners Jim Matzur and Dean Van Dallwyk bought the building next door to expand the restaurant after they purchased the 1990's-era tavern and banquet hall. The pub boasts a full bar and offers 20 versions of Long Island tea. Nautical dcor here includes gleaming brass fixtures, etched glass windows and more than 50 historical Kenosha harbor photographs. The Boat House serves lunch and dinner seven days a week with breakfast added on weekends. Seafood figures predominately in the menu, with local catches such as whitefish, walleye pike, smelt and lake perch taking the center stage. Juicy meats, such as chicken, pork and ribs are smoked in-house and steaks, brisket, pizza, salads and an array of appetizers, many with seafood, complete the menu. Try the Bread Boat, a toasted bread bowl filled with the steaming soup, chowder or house-made chili. If you're in need of lodging too, check out the Merry Yacht Inn, an 1895 fire station right across the street. By land or by water, stop by Boat House Pub & Eatery for great food in a fun and casual atmosphere.

Twin Oaks Country Inn

Twin Oaks Country Inn adorns a hill that is home to a virgin stand of native oak trees. This site was chosen by A.W. Benham in the 1830's for the construction of the first frame house built, in what was then known as Gilead. Benham, who originated from Gilead, Connecticut, named this area after his hometown. Benham then built the first flour mill and erected the first dam on the Fox River in Gilead. The town was re-names Wilmot some years later when Benham platted the community.
In the late 1850's, Benham, running into financial difficulties, sold this interests to a Mr. J.W. Voak. The Voak family occupied the original home until they moved it off the property to their farm north of town. They then built, in 1891, the present structure, now known as Twin Oaks Country Inn. The house was the wonder of the county when built, boasting an acetylene gas lighting system.
The Voaks remained in the house until 1901, when a devastating fire destroyed their flour mills and the home was sold to settle claims. Mr. George Faulkner and his wife purchased the home and lived in the house until the mid 1940's. It then fell into the Hands of the Church and became the Holy Name Covent and eventually a Parochial School. A large addition was added to the house at that time to accommodate the classrooms for the school.
In 1967, the house was purchased and converted into a restaurant, retaining as much of its historical atmosphere as possible. Since 1967, the building has housed three restaurants with Twin Oaks being the third and again having been restored to an original atmosphere. Many of the original light fixtures, having been converted to electric, are again in use.
We have two dining rooms, and a quaint bar in what used to be the formal dining room of the original house. There is a Banquet room in the classroom addition that can accommodate groups between 40 and 200 people.
