Hugo Cherubini was a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. When Hugo landed on Ellis Island from Italy in the early 1930's upon his first sight of America he said, "I'm going to make something of myself, I am going to make a difference!" He immediately set to work on building the foundation of his dreams: he was the first man in Milwaukee to volunteer for World War II and earned a Purple Heart for bravery, he founded the first Italian Dance Group which continues today and he founded the first Italian cement construction company in Milwaukee in the 1940's and ran the business until he retired in the early 1980's. Hugo died on June 5, 2000 at the age of 84.
Hugo was a funny, kind, caring man who loved his family, friends and his dog Bella. With his firm handshake and soft smile, he touched the lives of many. By Hugo's example, we too, are following our dreams and hope your dining experience leaves you feeling satisfied with your meal, our service and our desire to welcome you into the Hugo's family spirit of hospitality. This famous small country restaurant is located at the junction of two country roads bordering rich Wisconsin farmlands and the neat Rock Lake community of homes one half mile south of Trevor, Wisconsin.
The dining room overlooks a shaded lawn with one of the largest weeping willow trees in southeastern Wisconsin. It is bordered by a small creek which provides a pleasant view summer and winter. A generous selection of well-prepared meals is offered and graciously served by pleasant waitresses in colonial costume in a homelike atmosphere enhanced by many early by many early American antique furnishings. A cheery fireplace with logs crackling in the hearth welcomes you during the winter months.
The Colony House has been a favorite dining place for over eighty years in the lake region of southern Wisconsin, near Antioch, Illinois.

Twin Oaks Country Inn

Twin Oaks Country Inn adorns a hill that is home to a virgin stand of native oak trees. This site was chosen by A.W. Benham in the 1830's for the construction of the first frame house built, in what was then known as Gilead. Benham, who originated from Gilead, Connecticut, named this area after his hometown. Benham then built the first flour mill and erected the first dam on the Fox River in Gilead. The town was re-names Wilmot some years later when Benham platted the community.
In the late 1850's, Benham, running into financial difficulties, sold this interests to a Mr. J.W. Voak. The Voak family occupied the original home until they moved it off the property to their farm north of town. They then built, in 1891, the present structure, now known as Twin Oaks Country Inn. The house was the wonder of the county when built, boasting an acetylene gas lighting system.
The Voaks remained in the house until 1901, when a devastating fire destroyed their flour mills and the home was sold to settle claims. Mr. George Faulkner and his wife purchased the home and lived in the house until the mid 1940's. It then fell into the Hands of the Church and became the Holy Name Covent and eventually a Parochial School. A large addition was added to the house at that time to accommodate the classrooms for the school.
In 1967, the house was purchased and converted into a restaurant, retaining as much of its historical atmosphere as possible. Since 1967, the building has housed three restaurants with Twin Oaks being the third and again having been restored to an original atmosphere. Many of the original light fixtures, having been converted to electric, are again in use.
We have two dining rooms, and a quaint bar in what used to be the formal dining room of the original house. There is a Banquet room in the classroom addition that can accommodate groups between 40 and 200 people.
