Over twenty years ago on this very lot, 3110 Newport Boulevard, this building was a former House of Pies before becoming an upscale French eatery known as the Boozy Rouge. Then in the spring of 1990, the building was transformed into a happening sports bar called DP's Pub & Grill. During that time, Rudy Kaminski worked various positions in the bar before eventually becoming general manager and in 1999 bought the business along with his wife Brandy. It remained a local hot spot and popular sports bar but no one anticipated what was about to happen next.
In 2004, owner Rudy Kaminski partnered up with Todd Carson, a friend and local real estate developer and began the ultimate makeover at Rudy's, gutting the inside down to the old brick wall - with it's universally appealing classic warehouse design - and installing a very innovative and impressive 40-foot retractable roof that exposes the front half of the restaurant to the warm Southern California sunshine. On some occasions it protects patrons from the occasional coastal storm or cool foggy day. More than a year ago the partners installed a shiny, green synthetic turf from Your Turf, which makes it seem as though you're sitting on a freshly mown lawn while you're enjoying a nice cool adult beverage and catching some rays. It's definitely happening, and people are obviously lovin' it, as business has been booming ever since.
And while you are enjoying the action on the 32 flat screens adorning every conceivable space around Rudy's, you can enjoy a complete menu that has come a long way from the basic chicken wings, burgers and popcorn you find at many lesser sports bars. It has been enhanced and expanded under the supervision of Chef Chuck Gauney. In fact, the menu has changed as dramatically as the bar has changed with the addition of the retractable roof.

Gondola Adventures Inc.

We have a number of different variations on the gondola theme. Some are traditionally propelled by oar and oarlock or "Remo e' Forcola" in the manner that gondolas have been rowed for over 900 years in Venice, Italy. These "human-powered" gondolas - some built in Venice - are uncovered so guests can enjoy the stars at night and see all of the sky as the sun is setting.
At the opposite end of the spectrum are our "Neo-Venetian" gondolas; these boats have silent electric motors so the gondoliers steer them rather than rowing. Some are all black, while others are mahogany and black with inlaid roses and beautiful canopy covers. The elegant and distinctive interiors surround you in comfort. These more contemporary craft have a little more range and can, if requested in advance, travel further (which is nice in a harbor that is six miles long from one end to the other). Almost all of our cruises include a leisurely tour through the canal area at the north end of Newport Harbor - a very romantic and relaxing experience. Our dinners are catered by the Char House restaurant.

A Wild Rabbit

How does a fine restaurant get its start? Does it grow slowly over the years or is it created on the drive and instincts of someone with a vision?
It was natural for Bunny Bowers to get into the restaurant business. It had been part of her family while growing up and was something she enjoyed doing. While working as a waitress here in the city, she offered her expertise to the owner. Her many suggestions for business improvement were finally met with "you think that you known everything then go do it yourself."
with that challenge, her life savings, and a will to succeed, Bunny Bowers purchased a hot dog and cold sandwich shop that seated four people in downtown Redlands. That was in 1990. Within a year she had increased the capacity to 26 seats, was cooking breakfast, lunch and treats on a portable grill and BLT's was born. Fast service, good food, pleasant atmosphere, business boomed.
In 1992, a former Japanese restaurant in Brookside Plaza was born. With breakfast, lunch and a casual dinner menu, business continued to grow as did a loyal customer following.
In 1993 there was another remodel. The counter went, new carpeting, lighting and paneling was added along with a fountain, soft music and an English countryside dcor. The Wild Rabbit became a reality. An overnight success built on four years of devotion to a vision.
Today, you can enjoy a casual breakfast or lunch with varied menu items or fine dining and wine with soothing music, tuxedoed wait staff and personal attention to detail. The dream came true in four short years and Bunny thanks you for being part of her success.
Now, once again after 10 years another Wild Rabbit Restaurant is born in Costa Mesa at Back Bay. She looks forward to what the future might hold.
