The Lord Fox

American, Continental

5400 Plymouth Rd, Ann Arbor, MI, 48105

The Lord Fox Restaurant is a 125 year old house on six picturesque acres in the hamlet of Dixboro, just outside the city limits of Ann Arbor.Built in 1880, the house was situated on the main route between Ann Arbor and Detroit and in the 1920's was opened as the "Farm Cupboard Restaurant" to offer weary travelers food and drink. However, some say it was more than a restaurant in those early days, operating as a "blind pig" before the repeal of prohibition, many a poker game was held in the basement room, now known as the "Foxes Den."Also, in those early years, Henry Ford, could be seen here with union buster Harry Bennett as the rode their horses to the Farm Cupboard for Sunday dinner.Today, the Lord Fox remains a family owned restaurant and retains much of the "Gone With the Wind" style rarely seen in this area. You may choose to dine indoors, outdoors, or in the lovely gazebo overlooking Fleming Creek that runs through the estate. Private rooms or the entire facility are available for parties or special occasions. The cuisine is European-American, and the atmosphere is quiet and unpretentious. The prices are moderate, and the dress code is casual or with sport coat.It is a great place to enjoy the company of friends, fine cuisine, and wines from our award winning wine cellar. We invite you to visit this little island of local history. A worthy destination indeed!

Caucus Club

American, Continental

150 West Congress, Detroit, MI, 48226

As you enter the clubby Caucus Club, with it's empty magnums of French champagne, unusual paintings and antiques, Tiffany styles lamps give off a warm glow. Moving to the back room with its beautiful wood bar and English Toby Mug collection, you are sure you have stepped backin time.
Les and Sam Gruber opened the London Chop House in 1938 in the basement of the Murphy Telegraph Building. It was the top restaurant in Detroit and world-renowned. Everyone who was anyone dined at the "Chopper". The Gruber brothers opened the London Chop House North, directly across the street to handle the overflow of patrons, and the Caucus Club was born in 1952. The sister restaurant to the London Chop House has always been dark and clubby. Always busy at lunch. Judges, lawyers, Ad-Exec's, Stockbrokers, Bankers and Downtowners know it as the place to make and celebrate a deal!
The Caucus Club has had many celebrities cross its door. The most famous would have to be Barbra Streisand who sang in the back room in 1961. Brought here from New York, the Caucus Club was one of Streisand first paying jobs. She was young and inexperienced performer. "Watching her was like watching the first brush strokes in a picture, she was creating herself." Les Gruber. Streisand left Detroit for an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jack Parr, and the rest is history!
Although the Caucus Club has never been a private club, until 1971 The Caucus Club like many other downtown spots was a men's only dining spot. Luckily women broke that barrier, because the Caucus Club has been owned by a woman since 1993.
The Caucus Club's classic cuisine has been recognized with many awards of distinction. Bobby Flay and his "Food Nation" visited Detroit and featured Caucus Club Sauted Lake Perch and Oysters in Champagne Sauce. The television program can still be seen on the Food Network now and then!
