Old Millstream Inn

The History of the Old Millstream Inn -We've got a teacher on staff... they always want to learn. In this day of super-wide suburban thoroughfares lined by strip malls & ubiquitous national chains, we at The Old Millstream Inn try to be a part of a rich past that reaches into present day. Old Town St. Charles in the Williamsburg, the Charleston of the frontier. The stream just to patio's south is likely the natural asset that made this spot the original settlement of the historic town that has donned no fewer than three names. Of a lengthy line of former owner of the property in which you are sitting, or standing, explorer Daniel Boone was likely the first title holder in 1795/ Footings for at least four log cabins, a kitchen building and carriage house all rest beneath the earth. In fact, the shed just to the north if the brick building is the oldest existing outhouse in St. Charles County and perhaps in a multi-state area. St. Charles Preservation Society officials have noted it as such. It dates back to the late 1800's. Soon, the old-time outhouse will bear a bronze placard detailing the in depth nature of its historic value (we're still waiting...)

McGurk's Public House

McGurk's Public House is in an historic place, in the old section of the boomtown named for a soldier and railroad man from St. Louis, John O'Fallon. This structure traces it's history to 1862, when Frederick Westhoff founded Westhoff Mercantile. It was the oldest, continuously run business in O'Fallon before it closed in 1990. O'Fallon's first newspaper was printed here, and it was the site of the town's original power plant. But given the building's new life, the historic plaque on the faade mentions something especially significant. For most of its existence, 108 South Main Street has been a "social gathering place." And what better place to gather than around McGurk's magnificent black walnut bar hand-carved by Stuart Mark Smith.
