The Bakakos family (George, Dino and Billy ) opened the Lafayette Grill and Bar in 1996 and besides serving traditional Mediterranean fare for breakfast,, lunch and dinner and special events, the brothers soon made the downtown landmark ( formerly Peggy Doyle's , a popular Irish pub) a cultural institution, as well. It now offers a performance space, art gallery and special occasion venue all in one. It hosts a monthly art show, live jazz, Middle Eastern, Latin and Arabic musicians, tango, dance nights, plus book signings, government retirement parties , professional networking events and, of course, belly dancing on Friday nights.
The art gallery has seen a changing monthly exhibition since 1996. Visual artists exhibit their work on the 14ft' white walls and exposed brick walls of the long and wide restaurant. Artwork normally changes mid-month and artists frequently host gallery openings at the restaurant to commence the new showing. Past exhibitions at Lafayette's gallery have included well-known and celebrated artists Dennis Oppenheimer and Chuck Connolly ( Artists should contact Dino Bakakos for information at lafgrill@yahoo.com .
On Friday nights, from 10 to 2:30am, the restaurant features live music with a Middle East melange of songs, instruments , and influences from the Greek, Israeli, Armenian, Arabic, Turkish , Balkan cultures. Friday nights also features belly dancers from around the world, with additional belly dancing held on the 2nd Tuesday and the 2nd Wednesday of every month.
Saturday nights at the restaurant are for tango. The dining area of The Lafayette Grill & Bar becomes a dance floor for traditional Argentinean tango. It's the only Milonga south of Canal Street. A class for beginners is included in admission: $10 cover-free parking available-from 7:30pm-5:00am.

For us sports and food always went hand in hand. For years we organized tailgate parties and events, where we grilled up tons of food, marinating it in our own sauces, spices and ingredients. Chili was always our favorite creation, and usually the centerpiece of the day.
Our Chili slowly evolved over the years from game to game, altering the ingredients and finally coming up with the Smokehouse Original Chili recipe. We also realized that chili was the perfect topping for so many other dishes. We started smothering almost everything on the grill with chili and cheese and creating more combinations to compliment the various chili recipes being used.
Our events in lot 13A at Yankee Stadium and Lot 2A at GIANTS STADIUM as well as parking lots around the country became huge. Everyone seemed to try to get the recipe for the chili, which we never gave up. It remains a secret to this day. We are passionate about chili and love various styles in addition to our own recipe.
We attended chili cook-offs and contests, traveled to famous chili parlors and finally decided to put our passion into a business, on July 4th, 2007, Smokehouse Chili & Grill was born.
This July (2008) Smokehouse Original Recipe was voted BEST CHILI in Westchester County by Westchester Magazine.

Nestled at the foot of Schooley's Mountain in the heart of scenic Long Valley, New Jersey, the Long Valley Pub and Brewery resides in a breathtakingly restored 200-year-old barn. Our brewery and kitchen are central to the character of our establishment. Our award winning brewer and outstanding culinary team have developed a wide variety of unique beers and culinary creations to appeal to the diverse tastes of our patrons. Like the 200-year-old barn that houses our restaurant, our fresh beer, quality food and dedicated staff stand to make this a perfect site for a night out for you special occasion. The building. As far as anyone can determine, the stonewalls of the pub were erected around 1771 by German immigrants. The original structure was a classic bank bam with what is now the main entrance being the bank or upper entrance. The original upper floor of the structure was used as a hay barn. The upper floor was originally vaulted with what is now the upstairs being non-existent. Livestock were probably kept on the ground floor (where the kitchen is now). The building was renovated in 1995 having been in complete disrepair. As much of the original beams as possible and are visible in the original structure during the renovations. Many people building located next to the barn that is now the pub. The sawmill was a separate building located next to the barn that is now the pub. The sawmill was dismantled during the renovations.
Our Brewery: Our brewing system was manufactured in California by Pub Brewing Company. It is a seven-barrel brewing system. There are two half kegs in a barrel (31 gallons) which means that each batch brewed on our system yields fourteen half kegs (217 gallons). We are currently producing roughly 800 barrels a per year.
