During world war II the Reading Hardware Company made armor plate for the war effort. Helmets, shell casings, armor plate for tanks, bomb fuses, and light armor plate for the bottom of airplane seats were all manufactured here.
In the early 1950's, the Reading Hardware Company closed its doors for various reasons. Since then,many of the buildings have been torn down, while the remaining structures have been rented as industrial warehouse space or converted into apartments (the Riverloft). In the early 1960's the J.E. Tobacco company was a major tenant in this building with its cigarette and candy distributorship (in the current brewery area) and catalogue showroom (in the current pub and restaurant areas). After Jetco, threshold rehabilitation services rented the space for their microfilming operations and the photo license center.
In 1995, the Baushers and McShanes joined forces to create the Neversink Brewery and Canal Street Pub and Restaurant. Construction began in January 1996 with the Grand Opening on July 31. The Canal Street Pub and Restaurant is like no other space in Berks County. It combines an unusual atmosphere with great food and great beer.

As a child at the age of six. William Mount a vision of someday becoming a chef and owning his own restaurant. In 1974, at the age of eighteen, Bill worked in his first restaurant and upon graduation, was offered the position of head chef. Because he achieved the honor of Best Restaurant in Delaware County, several articles were written about him in local papers. In the years ahead, Bill was educated at La Cuisine Academy in Baltimore, Maryland and obtained his degree in hotel and restaurant management and has had the wonderful opportunity of working under some of the best chefs in the area.
After the experience of opening both the Iron Master and Downtown Motor Inn, working at Covatto's Britton Lodge, and Yellow House over the course of twelve years, Bill decided to venture out on his own. Since purchasing the Maple Springs Deli in 1995, Bill has received nothing short of incredible support from the community. Maple Springs Deli has undergone many remodeling projects, which have afforded Bill and his employees the opportunity to provide high quality food and service at reasonable prices. Bill has been affiliated with the Berks County Chef Association for the past five years and has assisted in its fundraising efforts for charities.

In 1940 Mr. J.S Hornberger proposed a summer resort & amusement park to be built along the trolley line in Mohnsville (Mohnton). A seven acre lake, named Valmont for the valley between the mountains, was built where the playground is today. This piece of Mohnton History provided year round recreation, with a fleet of small boats and a steam powered "Ship" to entertain visitors. Unfortunatelly, heavy rains breached the dam in the early twenties and Lake Valmont, like the resort it was to be part of, faded from memory.

The Drafting Room Taproom & Grille first opened its doors in August 1994 on busy route 100 in Exton, Pennsylvania (West of Philadelphia). Our commitment to provide customers the finest in food, beer, and scotch, allowed us in 1998, to open the doors of the second Drafting Room located on Bethlehem Pike in Spring House, Pennsylvania (Suburban Philadelphia).
The Drafting Room provides guests a vast selection of the finest handcrafted beers, micro-brews and seasonal releases from the world's greatest breweries. Both Drafting Room locations have over a dozen drafts as well as a beer engine which enables guests to taste the finest in cask conditioned ales. Serving to enhance our draft selection, The Drafting Room carries over 100 different bottled beers with a strong commitment to the beers of Belgium.
Another area, in which The Drafting Room excels, is in our exhaustive selection of single malt scotches. We pour over 70 different single malts from all regions of Scotland. To encourage and educate guests, we provide the only "scotch tastings" in the area (a sampling of scotches). These tastings enable guests to try and compare a few different scotches without spending a fortune.
Perhaps the leading component to The Drafting Room's success is our food. Everything on our contemporary creative menu is produced in house, from scratch, in our chef run kitchen. To keep guests coming back for more, each location changes its menu approximately three times per year. In addition to our updated menu, we provide three to four "chalkboard specials" every lunch and dinner to take advantage of seasonal items.
