Here at Tokonoma Gallery and Green Tea Cafe, situated in restful bush land 15-20 minutes from Gold Coast beaches , is Queensland’s first green tea café, serving spectacularly beautiful and healthy drinks and desserts that marry Japanese and Australian flavours. The star of the café’s menu is Iced Matcha Supreme, a deep green tea “cocktail†made from the same superbly healthful tea as used in Japan’s 400-year-old tea ceremony. It is sweetened to perfection with fresh orange juice and fragrant lemon-myrtle syrup and served on ice in a tall glass. Other unusual offerings include black coffee jelly, curry ice cream, and delightful dumplings of glutinous rice spiked with cream cheese and topped with a delectable sweet soy sauce. These confections can be tried as part of an elegant sampler ($15 for 3 items+drink). Drinks are from $3.50 for filtered coffee, from $4.50 for green teas and $6.00 for iced matcha supreme. Visitors to the café are also treated to beautiful natural surroundings and a visual feast of the gallery’s unusual contemporary art.

Patrons sit on cushioned rugs on the floor with supported back rests, low tables and very dim lighting. All the tables (or booths) are enclosed by sheer curtains.
The atmosphere is very private and especially intimate for couples.
Garuva caters both to couples and larger gatherings of up to thirty people.
During the week the mood of the restaurant is very tranquil (hence the name) although Friday and Saturday nights tend to be busier and loud.
