Ortolan

Ortolan, residing on L.A.’s West Third Street corridor, is the first venture for French Chef Christophe Emé who has worked in some of the most recognizable restaurants in the world. With the encouragement of his girlfriend, actress Jeri Ryan, Emé decided it was time to open his own restaurant.
Designed by Kristopher Keith and his firm, Spacecraft, Ortolan has a decidedly modernized provincial feel. Casually elegant, the beautifully appointed dining room will serve Emé’s classically inspired French cuisine.
Emé serves contemporary versions of French classics that include dishes such as crispy langoustines served with cauliflower puree and beef jus, as well as roast squab and leg confit with compte macaroni and tapenade salad. He comments “I hope to create a place that feels like home where people know they will get a great meal every night of the week, where jacket and tie are not required, but guests can enjoy haute cuisine in a casual setting.

Sushi Mon Japanese Cuisine
Japanese, Sushi
8562 West 3rd Street, Los Angeles, CA, 90048
In the shadows of the mammoth Beverly Center, this storefront might be one of the best-kept secrets on the West Side. An unpretentious little sushi joint, the vibe is contemporary Californian with yellow walls and tiny booths, but the fish is as fresh as in the finest restaurant in Japan. Although the menu boasts all the typical Cal-Japanese offerings, Sushi Mon really specializes in the creative and the sublime. Don't miss the Third Street roll, a totally unique concoction that is a meal unto itself, a crab roll topped with a steaming, rich scallop-and-mushroom casserole. Other unique rolls include the Philadelphia with smoked salmon and cream cheese, the Rolls Royce with ahi and tomato and the Godzilla, a roll of gargantuan proportions stuffed with white fish, avocado, crab and dynamite sauce. Be sure to bring plenty of friends, because proportions are generous and once you start sampling, you'll want to try them all.

One of LA’s best Italian restaurants, Locanda Veneta aims to transport diners to Venice, where the freshest and often deceptively simplest ingredients are combined and cooked into art. The cozy room, often dotted with celebs, is elegant but there’s nothing fussy about the menu. Here you’ll find favorites such as a fresh-vegetable minestrone; wild mushroom risotto; and spinach and ricotta cheese gnocchi. Garlic, fresh herbs and olive oil dress many of the pasta, meat and fish dishes; and the veal scaloppini gets a different preparation every night. When an Italian spot is as classic as this, how can you skip a dessert of tiramisu? Our extensive wine list complements your meal, with selections mainly from Italy, California, Chile, and Argentina.
