Mt. Adams Bar & Grill

The Mt. Adams Bar & Grill backbar reputedly came out of a speakeasy owned by the infamous Cincinnati bootlegger, George Remus. Speakeasys were illegal bars operated during the Prohibition of alcohol decreed in 1919 by the 18th amendment to our Constitution. Remus, a Chicago criminal attorney, moved to Cincinnati and bought a distillery to produce legal bonded whiskey for medicinal purposes by prescription only. Not surprisingly, a great deal of Remus' whiskey found its way into speakeasys.
At the height of his sucess he employed 3,000 people and $20,000,000 in bribes to local police and officials. His sucess brought him $45,000,000 in profits and the unwelcome attention of Federal agents. Scheduled for trial he gave his diamond collection to his wife. For unknown reasons she promptly filed for divorce, but in a diabolical twist, just two hours before the trial was scheduled to begin, Remus tracked her down in Eden Park and killed her. He pled guilty due to insanity, spent three months in a state mental hospital, after which he was found sane and released.
Prohibition was repealed in 1933 with the passage of the 21st amendment and the Bar & Grill in its present location was the first drinking establishment in Ohio to obtain a liquor license.

While seated at the bar, look up: The large second floor hangs overhead like a loft. The ceiling is super-high with exposed piping giving it an industrial feel, while large, black-and-white canvas photos on the brick walls give off an artsy vibe.
Next to the bar is a high stage. The bar brings in some local acts, The Turkeys, The Modulators, and Noisewater, to name a few.Keeping up that high energy usually means more than just a couple Monsters: The bar keeps its kitchen open late (2 a.m. every night!) for those with the munchies. The full menu of appetizers (big enough to share), burgers, wings and specialty pizzas is available anytime, day or night, and they are really well-priced, especially when it comes to 40-cent wings on Wednesday's wing night.
Sidebar also boasts some serious drink specials every night of the week, plus $1 off all menu items for happy hour 11am to 8 p.m. Monday thru Friday. If you're a daredevil, try the Sidebar Challenge: 50 hot wings and a pitcher of beer, all consumed in one hour. If you can stomach the whole thing, you won't have to pay for it. Weekly specials include $5 cheese pizza on Mondays and $1.50 tacos on Tuesday. Wednesday is wing day with $.40 wings, Thursday has $4 wraps, Friday is $5 fish sandwitch. Sunday come in and enjoy an excellent Bengals atmosphere with 13 flat screens and the NFL package, specials TBA.
