Join us for an interesting 4 mile walk in historic Rochester, that takes us along the famous River Medway, through meadows, parks and marshland, all within the heart of Rochester.
Rochester is steeped in history and Charles Dickens spent his childhood and final years in this area. We walk past the Norman Castle, the Cathedral, Restoration House (this was an Elizabethan mansion visited by Charles II), and Watts Almhouses. We also walk alongside the Esplanade, the riverside road which was once the site of Short Brothers boatyard. During World War II the famous Sunderland Flying Boats, who played a crucial role in the war, were built there. We also walk past many other ancient historical buildings, antique shops, tea rooms and really take in the culture and history of Rochester. Halfway round we stop at a nice pub for optional refreshments and for those people hungry and thirsty after the walk, there are many restaurants, tea rooms and pubs that serve nice food. Our walks are a great way to make new friends and meet new people in a relaxed and friendly environment. If there is anyone you have enjoyed talking to during the walk, then don¿t hesitate to let us know. We will then do the work for you, it is as simple as that!
