Ashoka was a descendant of the great Mauryas, who ruled India in the second and third century B.C. His regime extended from 273 to 232 B.C. He diverted all of his energy to bringing peace and happiness by spreading the word of Buddha; after that he was known as Dharam-Ashoka.
The imperial policy was expressed and inscribed on pillars which were known as Seven Pillar Edicts. The Ashoka Pillar at Sarnath reminds us even today of his greatness. The three lions that adorn it, the "Dharma Chakra" has been adopted by the Indian government as the device of its national seal.

Tandoor is cylindrical clay oven native to India. This oven is of ancient origin and can be retraced back several thousand years. The Tandoor comes in a variety of sizes.
The Tandoor is fully buried in sand for insulation. Charcoal is used in the Tandoor. A temperature of 800 degrees is maintained inside the Tandoor.
Every Indian bread served here is baked in the upper section of the Tandoor. This is done skillfully by slapping the dough against the oven's instantly hot, curved walls. The meats are pre-treated with yogurt and a special blend of spices for a period of 24 hours. Then they are cooked in their own juices over a bed of hot charcoal inside the oven.

Shenandoah at the Arbor is owned and operated by Rick and Jill Wilson, the original owners of Shenandoah Caf, which was located in Long Beach for over 21 years. October of 1983 Shenandoah Caf opened in Naples on Naples Plaza, one year later Shenandoah moved down the street a couple of miles to a larger location on 2nd street in Belmont Shore. Shenandoah Caf closed its doors on May 31, 2005.
On July 28, 2003, Rick and Jill opened Shenandoah at the Arbor at 10631 Los Alamitos Blvd. in Los Alamitos, Calif.
Shenandoah is famous for their hot apple fritters, a complimentary appetizer served immediately to all who chose to dine there. American regional cuisine is what you will find on the menu, at lunch and dinner. Lunch favorites include San Antonio Chicken Sandwich, Texas Fried Chicken Salad, and BBQ Chicken Quesadilla. Dinner Highlights are Cajun Rib Eye, Galveston Pasta, Baby Back Ribs, Sand Dabs, and on Friday and Saturday nights, Hickory Smoked Prime Rib.
In July of 2005, Shenandoah at the Arbor was featured on Elmer Dills dining spot on channel 7.
