In My Own Words…
Tell us a little about yourself:
I am a recent empty-nester who has now found time to be more
social. I love: Art museums, opera, jazz, movies such as Matchpoint, Curse of the Lotus Flower, documentaries such as The Agronomist, War tapes, Omagh.Being around young people.
I like women who are smart, independent, like to read, and who are basically kind and gracious, some one who overlooks another's idiosyncrasies and finds the truly valuable underneath the surface. I have just rejoined Metrodate after a several month hiatus.
I have just retired from a long teaching career (Physics-English lit- Math) in secondary ed. Active in Phila.AreaPeaceCorps Assoc.
I grew up with opera in Philadelphia and sang chorus in fly-by-night companies in South Philly. Growing up my work experience was in the building trades and I have rebuilt and restored several houses in my life. I do not follow pro sports at all.
I am working on reducing life down to its essentials. Simplifying my life.Thoreauing out a lot of stuff. Active in politics. Spend time in log cabin acquired last year in NorthCentral Pa. Recently saw and loved A Serious Man by the Coen Brothers.
My turn-offs and traits I avoid from a potential partner:
Homophobia, ideological obsession, moral absolutism, liberal snobbery.
Right wing nut cases (fans of G.Beck, Hannity, McEnsign, Fox Cable News)
My favorite music:
New things coming out of NYCity:Ben Allison, Ron Horton, Frank Kimbrough, Maria Schneider Orchestra. World premiers produced by 2001 Orchestra in Philly.
My favorite movies:
Loved Milk, Coen Bros., Woody Allen. Before Night Falls, about Cuban poet Reinaldo Arenas
My favorite pets or animals:
I have an emotionally needy but lovable Rotty/G.Shepherd whose insecurities are enhanced by my daughter's two cats.
Some more keywords that describe me: (Examples: Ethnicity, religion, disabilities, or political party)
My religious thinking is along the lines of Bishop John Shelby Spong. In politics I am a pragmatist and get very annoyed with ideological extremists, labelers, and name callers who typify fans of Fox Cable News.
