I figure since metallica is getting a fair bit of airplay on most rock stations, and have been since their black album, they aren't an alternative band.

Get a grip people my mate used to strum along to Metallica (Metal Licker) then he learnt how to play guitar and once he did he realised they were shit I suggest you do the same.

Hey, Metallica was alright but not anymore I prefer Slipknot, System of a Down, or Motorhead, these bands are better

I would sell my soul to see System live. Serj Tankian is astounding, gotta say the side projects are highly disappointing, but the intense nuances to their earlier stuff is mindblowingly amazing.

There will never be a better Heavy Metal band better than Metallica. Many original fans turned their backs on them for the stunts they pulled a few years back with the lawsuits against fans and the not so creative Load, Reload, and St. Anger CD's. Their 80's music and Black album will always be the benchmark of rock/metal. Their new CD ranks up there with their 80's smash hits. Sure, there are other bands out there that are great. Here are a few of my other favorites... In Flames, Pantera, Godsmack, Rammstein, Megadeth, Foo Fighters, Marilyn Manson, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Bush, Seether, Chevelle, and a few others I can't think of right now. :) keep in mind, this is my opinion. it's not intended to upset anyone.
