Some classics if you haven't already read them: Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card), Von Bek (okay, so it's more dark fantasy but what other book covers christianity, morality, metaphysics so well? by Michael Moorcock), Robot series(Isaac Asimov).

Can you remember the first "real book" you read? (That means no "Golden books!") Someone in my family gave me "Little Women" when I was 10, and I still have it; I love it. I also read "The Secret Garden," by Frances Hodgen Burnett, but I think I must have been 8, because my father's inscription to me is dated 1972, which would have been my 8th year. Still have that one, too!

What a great question. I think it was The Adventures of Prickley Porky by Thornton Burgess. I was so young and didn't know it was a novel, so started reading in the middle, random chapters, wondered why it didn't make sense. When I visited Brewster Massachusetts years later with my kids, I visited his house. Not a great book or series, but memorable as a first. Care to share other book tips? Suzanne
