Please read the very excellent book "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. Extremely well argued, it systematically dismantles all myths attributed to God and religion.

You sound like my kind of person. I like the same kind of books, especially ancient history and unexplained mysteries. I used to read a lot of true crime but havent found any good ones for quite a while,I also like fantistic fiction.
