Something Core2, 4GB RAM, 7200rpm Harddrive ( not 5400rpm ), 15" or higher screen. 17" are hard to travel with. All are foreign made and look different. Look for one with a good warranty b/c something WILL fail on a laptop, no matter the brand. I would suggest a SSD harddrive b/c they will not crash over the standard harddrive when you transport the laptop. My .02
