Reply from lebonbon on Jan 21, 2013: I have seen this movie over and over again for years and everytime it seemed to me i was rediscovering it it's a monument of film making. before that i was impressed by the avant garde movie of the masters Italian fredirico fellini and franchesco rosi but with akira in all the the black and white movie it did intensify the mystic side There are two other ones that are a land mark in movie making (roshomon) I recognize in Akira Kurasawa a real master of picture who has an equal only as Hichcock Very recently ,i was impressed by another director whomade a movie titled Departure ...try it if youhave not yet it;s pleasure sharing this with you Mimo

Reply from CoolGuyInIndia3593 on Apr 27, 2013: Wonderful movie made in the 50s. I've been a Kurosawa fan for more than 30 years, since my college days. Have you watched his Dersu Ujala (spelling may be wrong)?

Reply from lebonbon on Jan 21, 2013: Hi I'm glad you found the right words and courage to prevent some desperate intruderfrom poluting the debate About foreign movie and specailly the japanese ones. I have noted one curious event ,that the japanese as well as the chinese and to certain extent the french have tired to emulate the masters of the italina cinema specially in the domaine of political movie that portrays the big event in political assasination and plots for example in the movie (l'affaire Mattei as well as L'affaire matioti which are a what the italian call (a capo lavoro)and also francesco rosi in the portraying of Slavatore Julinao movie The techiques and the hightening point in all these movie you could almost see them breathing through in both tragedies and comedies either japanes or chines as in the most recnet (relatively speaking : Lust caution) In the japanese you could feel the fantom of the italian cinemas almost haunting the scenes in Departure as well as in a movie( whichi forgot the name but iremeber the context which is the mother who abandoned her children (a true story in japan that had been translated into picture it was pleasure sharing this with you Oh by the way have you seen La strada of F fellini? what is your take on it what impression had it left on you if youhave seen it? Audition (1999)

Posted by aBaldBeau777 on Dec 16, 2012: For those who haven't seen this film, it'a a Japanese horror/psycho-thriller movie directed by Takashi Miike; and it's about a middle-aged widower who holds a faux movie audition so he can find a new mate. Only problem is the woman he falls for is a complete sociopath. I re-viewed this movie recently because I found so many people talking about this flick lately. I saw it in I think 2000, but it's enjoying some sort of new success. I remember ?uestlove of 'The Roots' singing its praises. When I tried to get through the whole movie recently, I decided to shun the last half because this flick is so sadistic. I guess I'm getting squeamish 'cause I'm not a teen-ager anymore;-) Also, I think this movie is finding a second life because of its themes of misandry and cruelty to effeminate men. But that's just my opinion...has anyone else been made aware of this movie lately, or is it just me?

Reply from aBaldBeau777 on Jan 9, 2013: Hey 'silent'... Thanks for the reply to my post; I'm hoping you get a chance to view the film sometime soon. And I'm glad you showed me that people actually care enough to respond to posts in this forum;-) I understand this flick may not be your cup of tea, but do you have any foreign flick favs that you can share with me/us?
