Lived in Vermont for over 20 years. Not much there that isnt picture postcard. Miss the place. Jay Peak is worth the jaunt. Further north outside of Newport almost touching the Canadian border marks the beginning of the Long Trail. I remember it as being the oldest hiking trail in the US joining the Appalachian Trail around Rutland. Great fall hiking. Colors cant be beat. Peak "leaf peeping" is first weekend in October for most of Vermont lowlands. North toward Jay is earlier, mid September just about right. Cold weather has already set in there and I am sure snow is already flying. Makes me homesick!

Actually you can use the ferries and go to some of the smaller islands which have paths over them, good for a half day walk.

It would really be awesome if there where a couple of us women who could meet and form a walking club together.I have 3 dogs that love to get out in nature and also meet other canines for hiking in the woods. Of course we all need to live within a reasonable distance of each other to make it easy for rendezvous. gab
