Glad to see not everyone on here has "furry critters". I have a number of different species of turtles and tortoises. How is it owning the snake?

I think they make the best pets. A lot of people don't know this, but a snake is actually one of the cleanest animals one can keep. That is just one of the things I love about them. And since they only eat once a week and eat their food whole.....they only make a mess about every two weeks. Temperament varies from one species to the next....here in the states kingsnakes and cornsnakes are popular because they do not grow too large and they are easy to care for, but I have found them to be nervous . At least compared to boas and pythons. I think the red tail boa is probably the best snake you can have. How long have you kept turtles? What kind do you have? It was nice to hear from someone who likes reptiles too.

I've been keeping turtles/tortoises for 20+ years. I currently have Eastern Malaysian Box Turtles (7), Red Eared Slider Turtles (5) and Indian Star Tortoises (2). I love every one of them, and am currently trying to get hold of an Emys and an Elongated tortoise. I just love how reptiles are. They are a great pet. My stars and sliders roam the house regularly which is just so much fun. Got a slider at my feet now!!! I have seen a few pythons here, but wasn't sure whether to get one (i have to do some more research and prep first i think). Dont even know what type they are... but they are just so gorgeous.

Well if they are gorgeous as you say, then that is probably the reticulated python or an albino burmese. The thing to keep in mind with pythons , especially those that get real big, is that there is a world of difference between wild caught and captive bred, when it comes to temperament.I remember years ago when I first got into snakes, everyone was afraid of reticulated pythons because they were nasty....they would bite at the slightest provocation. But as time went on and more of them were bred in captivity, their disposition has settled down a lot.

It had the brown circular patterns on it.. so i am guessing reticulated. But that would be a huge undertaking as I believe they grow very big. I have seen photos of them at 5 to 7 metres long. So maybe I will wait for something more "household" or "terrarium" size. Thanks

If it was brown, it was probably a ball python. They only get about 5 feet.

Hello snakeman and to all reptile people. I grew up catching non-poisonous snakes in our garden as a girl. I moved on to have 2 Boas later on. One was 5' and the other was 5'5". I loved them sooo much. I babysat an abused huge python for a guy in FL to help tame her. I would give her lukewarm baths and she seemed to like this. I have not been around snakes in over 20 years now. I would love to reconnect with snake loving folks again.

I don't think I would own a Retic since they are the largest snake in the world. they tend to be quite aggressive too but are a beautiful snake. I used to raise all kinds of species of snakes but my favorites were the corn snake. the key is to handle them on a regular basis. good luck ith your snakes and I hope you enjoy them, they are wonderful pets.

I used to have French bulldogs during 13 years. Now I'm going to have too after I settle down at a new place. Meanwhile, I'd like to talk about them and to share my love and experience, because I miss them a lot
