During world war II the Reading Hardware Company made armor plate for the war effort. Helmets, shell casings, armor plate for tanks, bomb fuses, and light armor plate for the bottom of airplane seats were all manufactured here. In the early'50's, the Reading Hardware Company closed its doors for various reasons. Since then,many of the buildings have been torn down, while the remaining structures have been rented as industrial warehouse space or converted into apartments (the Riverloft). In the early'60's the J.E. Tobacco company was a major tenant in this building with its cigarette and candy distributorship (in the current brewery area) and catalogue showroom (in the current pub and restaurant areas). After Jetco, threshold rehabilitation services rented the space for their microfilming operations and the photo license center. In'95, the Baushers and McShanes joined forces to create the Neversink Brewery and Canal Street Pub and Restaurant. Construction began in January'96 with the Grand Opening on July 31. The Canal Street Pub and Restaurant is like no other space in Berks County. It combines an unusual atmosphere with great food and great beer.

	Mohnton Navy Yard Galley American 322 East Wyomissing Avenue, Mohnton, PA, 19540 (610) 777-6626 Only $3.00 for a $10.00 Dining Certificate!		In'40 Mr. J.S Hornberger proposed a summer resort & amusement park to be built along the trolley line in Mohnsville (Mohnton). A seven acre lake, named Valmont for the valley between the mountains, was built where the playground is today. This piece of Mohnton History provided year round recreation, with a fleet of small boats and a steam powered "Ship" to entertain visitors. Unfortunatelly, heavy rains breached the dam in the early twenties and Lake Valmont, like the resort it was to be part of, faded from memory.

Later, during Prohibition, it was used as a "Speakeasy" or illegal liquor store. In the'70s, the property was purchased by the Babb family and was converted into a fine dining establishment. "The Old Mill Inn". Today, the restaurant is owned and run by the former chef of the Babb family, Doug Delong, and his wive, Christine.Christine's Creekside Inn is located in Robeson Township, which was settled in_20, and incorporated Aug._29 while part of Lancaster Co.. Berks County started being settled around_00.Christine's Creekside Inn is located off of the Allegheny Creek.
