Upon entering the courtyard you leave behind the noise and traffic from El Camino Real and enter an oasis of Roses, Geraniums, Azaleas, Chrysanthemums and Daisies. Once you pass through the double doors you enter the world of Suraj, soft light, sweet sounds of Indian music, a plethora of authentic Indian dishes and superb service.
Suraj opened back in 1997, is a full service restaurant with 170 seating capacity. Three separate dinning rooms, a banquet hall that can accommodate 110 people which is fully equipped with a roof mounted projector, screen and other audiovisual equipment, and a well stocked bar that has a range of quality liquors to choose from.
Suraj offers a very elegant "All you can eat" Buffet Lunch, served daily, including soft drinks, Mango ice cream, Chi and regular Coffee.
Suraj offers mouth-watering delicacies from both the north and south of India, since Mr. Reddy, the owner is from the south and the chef, Tasminder is from Punjab in the north, together they create a perfect blend of vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes that encompass all of India.
Suraj offers over 130 items from the a la carte menu including a variety of Dosas and Tandoori Chicken. Some of the best dishes are Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Curry, Utthapam, Sag paneer, Hyderabadi Dum Biryani and Mirchi Salan.

Margaritas is a solid Mexican restaurant on the corner of Broadway and Jefferson, and they just added an outdoor eating area, which will be really great once construction wraps up in the downtown area. Their chips and salsa are great, and their agua frescas vary and are usually really good. Margaritas had become one of my favorites this summer simply because their taco salads are so gi-normous and so tasty. But the true standout on their lunch specials menu is their Huevos Rancheros. Words can't do it justice. Huevos en fuego. It's phenomenal!!!

When we first entered the intimate Indian food establishment we were struck by the simple, yet grand, home-like feeling of the place. Owner Manoj Chopra introduced himself and paid careful attention to our table-and all diners throughout the evening. We felt like guests in his home, who can't wait to return for another visit!
Before we carry on and on about the feelings Manoj and his exotic cooking and atmosphere conjured up let us share a bit more with you. LITTLE INDIA. Can-Eat" buffet style dining with a gourmet flair. Manoj cooks all entrees fresh, using the most natural ingredients available and then keeps his buffet entrees warm in warming pans along the serving table.
Manoj has been providing healthy home cooking since 1991. Over the years, LITTLE INDIA has developed a dedicated following of "regulars", people living in the area, Indian families seeking authentic Indian cuisine. Manoj's culinary training is stellar-having taught cooking in the Bombay Hotel School, and over 20 years of international cooking experience in hotels, restaurants and private dining rooms all over the world, including cooking in Bombay for the late Indira Ghandi. His style is elegant and refined, and he takes great care to avoid the "mass production" of Indian food offered by so many other Indian restaurants in the area. Manoj painstakingly cooks the dishes in advance of your arrival, and the rich flavor is achieved by the slow blending of the individual ingredients' flavors. He also prepares most of his foods at a mild spice level and offers plenty of chutneys and sauces to increase the spiciness level to each diner's satisfaction.

Our home-style Southeast Asian cuisine includes menu items from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, and other countries in the region. Each dish is made from scratch, with unique ingredients true to their country of origin.
The 3,700-square -foot space, formerly a government building was completely renovated following feng shui principles and features $500,000 worth of art and architectural elements acquired in Asia. Soaring ceilings accommodate a collection of massive, red silk lanterns. A mezzanine overlooks the main dining room and lounge, where 42-inch, flat-panel screens project images of Southeast Asian art and landscapes. Seating is a mix of dining tables and upholstered booths. The bar host a 20-seat communal table made from 100-year old petrified wood. Filipino artwork is featured and available for purchase, rotating every few months.
The wine list showcases boutique selections, with most labels under $50. It was developed by restaurateur and industry consultant, Frank Klein, who started San Francisco's First Crush Wine Bar, Biscuits & Blues, and Fish and Farm. The cocktail list is food-driven, with house-made-purees and innovative liquor infusions. Limited-production sakes and Asian beers are also available. Corkage fee is $15 per 750 ml bottle.
The restaurant seats 100, including 40 on the mezzanine. The lounge area seats an additional 55, including 15 at the bar and 20 at the communal table.<br>Come experience Red Lantern tonight!
