Advice on writing your profile

"What might be discouraging in my profile, or should I say, a no-no to most women?"
-Dodging Discouragement in Des Moines

Adrian: Lying! Don't lie in your profile! Don't fake things just to impress, you'll always get caught, and you'll always be disappointed with the results.

Michelle: Try to be original and creative, so that your profile is something people will remember. Your profile might not say anything discouraging at all, it might just be a bore! Let people get to know you a bit, and be friendly. Try to avoid cliches in your profile, like "moonlit walks on the beach", etc... who actually does that stuff?

When you write about what you are looking for in a person, don't narrow down your field too much. If you give a lot of specifics, they can almost seem like demands, which can turn people away. Be careful to word things as preferences, but not must-haves -- unless they really ARE must-haves.

Adrian: Writing a profile is a lot like writing a resume -- you want to give enough information about yourself to get people interested, but leave enough room for questions so that they'll want to get back to you. And once they get back to you... that's when the fun begins!
